Pdvsa plans to build 20 drilling rigs in 2015

State-run oil company PetrĂ³leos de Venezuela plans to assemble 11 oil rigs this year Ower Manrique, the president of state-run oil company Pdvsa Industrial, said that the Chinese-Venezuelan Drills Industry (ICVT) will assemble 11 oil rigs this year, and another 11 drilling rigs in 2012, and will expand the production of oil rigs to 20 units in 2015.

Manrique, who participated in the 1st Comprehensive Congress of the Venezuelan Oil Chamber, reported that the oil company will invest USD 500 million to assemble rigs, including several equipment specifically designed for heavy and extra-heavy oil fields at the Orinoco Oil Belt. "We have a package of specific proposals to adapt our equipment to the needs of the belt and to speed up oil production in the area," he said.

The oil rigs factory, located in the state of Monagas, northeastern Venezuela, expects to reach full production by 2015, with equipment ranging from 750 HP to 3,000 HP.

Pdvsa has projected that these drills will be used in projects carried out by the state-run oil company in Cuba and Ecuador, Manrique added.

For Pdvsa Industrial, it is essential to produce original designs adapted to the needs of the Venezuelan oil industry. "It is not the same thing to build a drilling rig for Canada than to build one for the oil fields located in the Orinoco Oil Belt," said one Pdvsa Industrial's official.
